Official languages in Watamu
speak swahiliSwahili & English although English is very widely spoken and most people can speak both English and Swahili. You will also find a local language is spoken. Children are taught English at an early age.  Learning a few words will make your holiday a bit special and the locals will appreciate your effort.

A few words you will hear:
Jambo = "hello"
Pole Pole = "slowly slowly"
Hakuna Matata ="no problem"
Asante Sana ="thank you very much"
 Kwaheri = "goodbye"
Lala salama = "Good night"
 Jina langu ni  = "My name is"
